Overview
The role of in-house counsel has changed considerably over the past twenty years to encompass more extensive responsibilities. As a result, the role of in-house counsel has evolved from legal adviser to moral conscience of an organisation, tasked with promoting an ethical organisational culture through training, compliance and other activities in addition to legal advice. This is often a challenging role given the tension that often arises between the desired ethical behaviour of employees and the business goals and objectives set by an organisation.
This course provides an overview of the ethical obligations of in-house counsel and examines the changing role of in-house counsel. It also discusses some of the common ethical dilemmas facing in-house counsel and provides guidance on identifying and managing these issues as and when they arise.
