Overview

It is becoming increasingly vital for lawyers to understand the risks and responsibilities that arise for companies in relation to ESG and sustainability.

As the environmental and social challenges we face increase in scale and severity, there is growing scrutiny on the corporate sector’s role in causing or addressing these problems. Consequently, ESG and sustainability are steadily climbing higher up the agenda for investors, regulators and communities.

Lawyers advising corporate clients must equip themselves to provide legal advice that takes into account the broader risks and responsibilities arising for companies in relation to ESG and sustainability.

This course provides an overview of issues relevant to ESG and sustainability in the corporate sector, including:

  • key standards for corporate sustainability and the most significant mandatory and voluntary reporting frameworks;
  • issues emerging as major concerns for corporate boards including risk management, disclosure, and reporting;
  • the evolving obligations of companies in the context of responding to climate change and regulatory scrutiny on practices such as ‘greenwashing’.

    A great overview was provided for such an incredibly diverse thematic topic. Provided information in 'bite-size-pieces' for greater retention and clarity.
  6. 5.0/5
    A very helpful introduction
    This was a useful introduction to the topic of ESG, sustainability and corporate governance. As I do not regularly practice in this area, I found the course helpful as it explains the key concepts and their differences in a way that is easy to understand. It also outlines in a useful way the various sources of applicable law relating to these topics, which are constantly evolving.
  7. 5.0/5
    This was a really good course.
    This was a really good course - with a lot of information about a critical, evolving area of corporate law. It was well-organised and well-documented. I had no idea there was as complex and comprehensive a framework in place, nor did I appreciate how far that framework has progressed toward mandatory obligations - and how fast.
  8. 4.0/5
    Interesting on a tricky area
    The author pulled a lot of strings together for this course. Important for in-house counsel in listed companies in particular but also for some large businesses which are listed eg a privately held steel company.
  9. 5.0/5
    Informative
    This course was very informative on a topic imperative to know about these days.
